Do I need a dedicated change table?
Optional. The top of a chest of drawers with a foam change mat works perfectly and the dresser stays useful past the change-table years. Buy a dedicated table only if floor space allows and you want everything in arm’s reach.
When can I stop using the change table?
Around 18–24 months when the toddler is too active to lie still safely on a raised surface. Switch to floor changes after that, or in a bathroom/laundry where you can use a portable change mat.
Are change tables safe?
When used correctly with the safety strap and never left unattended, yes. Falls happen when adults turn away “for a second”. Always keep one hand on baby and use the strap.
